We normally expect that before starting your course you have the suitable finances, funding or student loans in place to pay your tuition fees. If you are a new international student we normally ask you to show us that these arrangements are in place before you arrive and start your studies.
However, we know that sometimes there are circumstances that are unexpected or unforeseen that can change your situation and means that the money you had planned to use to pay your fees is now no longer available or delayed.
Our Tuition Fee Policy gives guidance on what to do in these situations and provides a couple of examples of what circumstances might be considered for a request for an exceptional payment plan or deferred payment.
If you are experiencing unforeseen financial difficulties you will need to contact the Student Finance team, providing an explanation why you can't pay by the due date, when you think you could pay (and why the funds would be available then) and also provide evidence of your circumstances and any evidence to support when you can pay (the evidence should not only be supporting statements from your friends or family).
The best way to contact Student Finance is to complete the Student Finance self-referral form, where you can give us the detail needed and upload any evidence. If needed the Student Finance team might offer you an appointment to discuss the matter further or may reach out for more information.
It is important to know, that unless an exceptional plan or a later deadline is given, the existing payment plan and payment deadlines will stay the same, meaning that you could be subject to the Procedures and Sanctions Applied for Non-Payment of Tuition Fees in the Tuition Fee Policy.
