We know you might be worried about meeting new people and getting used to sharing a kitchen or other facilities with your new flatmates.
We have teams and mentors available in halls and on campus who can help you with any questions you might have about resolving problems you might be experiencing with your flatmates. Drop in to chat to your duty Resident Assistant (RA) or reach out to the Accommodation Service team by raising an enquiry, if there is anything you would like to chat about or help you need to resolve any problems. A member of the team or your RA will be able to give you advice, support and guidance to help you talk things through with your flatmate and resolve your difficulties and talk about all the options available to you for a resolution.
You can start to get to know your new flatmates when you complete your booking, providing you and your flatmates choose to leave contact details. Lots of new residents arrange to have a chat, talk about life in halls and start planning for arrivals before move in. If you are moving in mid-year then you can reach out to your new flatmates before you arrive and let them know when you will be moving in. If you would like a member of the team to introduce you, let us know and we can arrange for someone to come with you to the flat when you check in.
It helps to talk to your flatmates about any problems you might be having or agree between everyone in the flat how you are going to look after the kitchen and other spaces, let them know if you sleep late or have to get up early and introduce them to your guests. There are lots of hints and tips our team can offer if you need any support. If you have any further questions, please log an enquiry and a member of the team will be able to help.
After move in you can make a request to change your room and the team will chat to you to see if there is any support they can give you to help you feel settled in your current flat, and let you know as soon as an option to relocate may be available for you. Halls are fully booked so sometimes a move can be hard, but you will not be left without support and the team are "here to help".
