We understand that interrupting your studies can be a difficult decision to make and would like to remind you of the support available via our Wellbeing Hub (www.gre.ac.uk/wellbeinghub).
Before deciding to request an interruption, it is important that you consult with your supervisory team. They will be able to help you to explore all avenues of support available before making a decision.
An interruption is requested by completing an RDA5: Changes to Registration Form requesting a period of interruption to be considered by the Faculty Research Degrees Committee (FRDC).
Postgraduate research students on a scholarship, studentship and bursaries must refer to the terms and conditions of the scholarship for information under which they are required to inform the funder of their study leave, and whether their stipend payments will continue during the absence. If a stipend payment needs to be stopped during an absence the Training & Research Programmes Officer will inform both academic payroll to cease stipend payment (where appropriate), and Student Finance to cease charging of fees.
Please see the following resources for more information on how you can apply for an interruption:
- Academic Regulations for Postgraduate Research Awards, see Section D: Registration, contractual obligations and engagement.
- Postgraduate Research Student's and Supervisor's Handbook, see Section K: Interruption of studies.
